@cawhitworth fail is bad form *iff* you can't control what monad it's being called in. It's fine for Maybe and for Either fr.ex.

@cawhitworth It's toy code: relax. Pretty much all reasonable monads which could fail cleanly do. I dislike it because it expects a string.
