I have two clones of a large git repo. foo is up to date, bar is months old. Can I get bar up to date by pulling objects locally from foo?

I assume you already worked it out, but adding a local remote will let you pull the objects in.

as everyone said and that's what I tried, but it wasnt pulling all of them, or something.

Oh, it wouldn't pull the contents of refs/remotes unless you altered the refspec in your gitconfig i guess.
