I'm kinda surprised how negative the reaction to gcc/Rust has been. Bordering on confrontational. Of course there is some risk, but I think it is practically useful and a great sign of Rust's maturity and increasing reach.

Indeed, I think it's very interesting. There'll be some "purists" who will not want to use something unless gcc/Rust can compile it; but they're the sort of people who won't be using Rust stuff currently anyway.
I'm all for ecosystem diversity.

I'm already hitting problems with crates always barelling forwards with newer and newer features meaning that it's often necessary for me to force nixos to use newer compilers. This problem already exists in one sense, just I don't file the issues :D
