using docker for the first time and it is a legit nightmare - how is there no simple way to access localhost from inside a container - how does compose not have a "new" command that creates a template compose yml

i used to just be like "nah i don't wanna get into it" and then today i thought "i bet if i get into it now, it'll be as nice and easy as everyone always says" and it is the worst experience

getting my own server and starting to self-host stuff was definitely my most regrettable decision of 2020

I'm sure at least one of you think my opinion is really unreasonable, but a program like this should not be this hard to get into. The user experience is unacceptably bad, and the fact that most of my friends (who frequently use docker!) are unable to help me is telling.

btw, i finally got this to work. Turns out docker-compose is *a lot easier* than having to add a million extra arguments and using --rm or deleting the container every time, since compose also does all of that for you for free. Yay?

Replying to @Ellpeck
IME anything which is "modern devops" (e.g. docker, docker-compose, kubernetes, and all the related technologies) is "easy once you know how" and a total and utter nightmare to get into if you're not used to it and just need to dip in for a moment to sort something out. *hugs*
