this seems to be a great way to weed out some neuroatypicals (who will get stuck on the "favorite") and people with hobbies they are not comfortable sharing don't do this
For a direct hire that first meeting for me has to be a hard yes. I ask the person to explain to me their favorite hobby. This allows me to listen for passion in something they love. If they skip this question or explain without passion it's a no.

if you ask me my favorite hobby I'll blank out while I figure out what among the things I like to do are classifiable as "hobbies" and then what is my favorite honestly the best way for me to answer that question is to ask my friends what they think my favorite hobby is
