while I don't agree with his slavish adoration of w3w most in built satnav systems do rely heavily on inertial guidance, though typically only in cities with tall buildings which reduce GPS precision.

There’s a huge difference between something done to improve a fix, and how GPS works, especially on a hillside.

Oh indeed. On a hillside, particularly if you're lost (and therefore standing still as you should be) GPS will be far far more useful. w3w is madness, perhaps it infects the minds of those who like it?
