PSA: restic is an excellent backup tool, BUT, if your disk fills up, you're in trouble. Getting rid of old snapshots requires free disk space. Monitor carefully!

Ouch, that's not a fun thing to find out the hard way.

I got lucky - I found 9GB of unrelated data on the partition, so I could move that. Then I could prune, and now I've made a few big files full of zeroes in case I ever need this trick again.

So long as your filesystem doesn't automatically work that out and poke holes in it you'll be fine :D
