This really shouldn't be an unpopular opinion (though to be fair in some communities it is already broadly the consensus rather than unpopular).
Unpopular opinion: Video call meetings in open source are largely exclusionary: you all should use more email, issue trackers etc. Asychronous messaging allows more time zones to participate & people with scheduling conflicts, not to mention people with hearing disabilities ...

Indeed. I find myself pushing the other way in projects which would otherwise have literally no face-to-face communication outside of conferences and hackfests (which seem even more exclusionary than video calls)

So long as video calls are there to *augment* but not *replace* written recorded conversation then I'm okay with them. E.g. for one project I'm on, we have fortnightly video call to discuss the previous 2 weeks and plan the next; but that's backed by email/blog posts too.
