I guess what I need to do is get a fully worked example, your bug is handy but given I came to Rust after rustup (the one I work on) was a thing, I'm not sure what it takes to "just install Rust 1.8" etc :D

oh! just `rustup install 1.8.0`. Doesn't even have to be that old, I just used that number randomly. This bug occurs for *any* older toolchain install, doesn't have to be *that* old. you can install the stable from one stable ago
