Look at this. I installed an LED strip under the arm of my zillion-year-old sewing machine. TOTAL. GAME. CHANGER.

This is one of the reasons I avoid old machines. All my current work machines have this built in. Good lighting makes a huge difference when sewing. πŸ’–πŸ’–
