Re: buzzfeednews.com/article/pra… - I wasn't involved in this decision, but end users shouldn't feel scared about using Zoom just because Google blocked it. The things we have to care about are very different to the things most people have to care about.

Most likely they’re blocking it because otherwise no one would willingly use hangouts :p

It works acceptably when talking to googlers and terribly otherwise

We've found Meet to be surprisingly OK for our work meetings. Both small and full-company Friday talks. Really impressed with the auto-captioning too.

Huh. I'm yet to be on a meet call in which one or more participants hasn't had to turn their video off, and the audio is *never* in sync

Weird. I've never had that, and I don't know any internal experiments that would influence it.

It seems not to do a great job at limiting video bandwidth sent to each endpoint - I frequently see issues on mobile where many conferencing platforms are fine, and people on low end DSL links have similar issues. Otherwise it’s great IME.

Oh we default to mic muted, send no video, unless you're called upon. Perhaps that's why it works so well for us :D

Most of the time we’re all camera on and it’s fine - cutoff seems to be somewhere under 10mbit for one of the participants.
