when I'm using a word from one language I speak in another, deciding which phonemic inventory I should use gets tricky I usually do a bit of both, e.g. when speaking in English I'll use English inflection but foreign phonemes

This is really tricky with names, I don't want to overcorrect or mispronounce those because various folks do names differently
this is worse with names some folks genuinely pronounce their names differently than you would others Americanize it when introducing themselves, but prefer the actual version which one to pick is tricky

Whenever we have a new joiner at work, I ask if they can render their name in IPA for me. Because I *hate* mispronouncing peoples' names.
