Okay tweeps, can someone explain to me why we can't have a referendum in the same timeframe as we could a GE? (Modulo parliament fannying about rather than getting on with it)

Allegedly takes 12 weeks to pass legislation (although...) and then 10 weeks to prepare. More details here: constitution-unit.com/2018/0โ€ฆ

Elections are easy, and routine. Referenda are not: the Electoral Commission need to approve the proposed question(s) and answers, and appoint the bodies (from applicants) to run the campaigns (for spending limits reasons). All that takes time.
