Installing Debian. If Iβd realised the installer would want to wipe the drive with random data first I might have chosen to install on the 1TB drive instead of the 2TB...

Thanks for the pointer, that saved me a ton of time. I rarely install to be honest - the systems I tend to use these data are either dist-upgradeβd from something years old or provisioned droplets from DO. :)

If you turn on encrypted disk, it fills the disk with random so that it doesn't leak how much of the disk is in use
