You're absolutely right. It's also good practice as a speaker to repeat the question before answering it, since that helps (a) give time to frame the response and (b) a chance for the questioner to refine it if the speaker misunderstands. IOW, 100% agree++

I wish more conferences had two (or more) audience mics for Q&As - it’d cut out one of the major reasons for people doing that and make things flow better.
