Interesting, in Spanish we have the expression "to put the dots on the i's" to mean making something crystal clear, usually if there's previous confusion about it.

Yes, but that means to do things well and with care. This one is about clarifying a matter. "Set things straight". Sometimes used to say you're going to tell someone off (with all the reasons why)
