We need to update our download page, but here's the official release of the Minecraft launcher on linux. If you want some assistance with making the Debian/ubuntu packages a bit less crunchy, Microsoft have some Debian developers, or I could be persuaded to help :-)

Also, bummer, the launcher doesn't work on Debian Jessie (yes I know it's old, but bah!)

We are building it on an already pretty old Ubuntu LTS, and it's using some new-ish C++ features. I'm not sure how far back we can take it. It's something to investigate, along with setting up repos, or getting it into repos.
