I prefer fast-forward-capable but with a merge commit. That way logically grouped commits still have a grouping (the merge commit) but bisection is still plausible.
Being me, and with the current state of politics in this country and around the world, I compute it will take approximately... fifteen to thirty minutes to need to stand down. (just long enough to rant in a maiden speech)

Looks like I need to become an MP long enough for it to fuck my mental health so I can stand down and get a nice big pension.
If an MP stands down for ill health reasons, an ill health retirement grant is payable, calculated in the same way as the Resettlement Grant, as well as an immediate pension based on the service the MP would have accrued if he or she had continued to serve until age 65.

Unfortunately I refuse to do a substandard job as that would not be fair to you. Thus, I'll have to decline this project unless you are able to find $XXX more budget. If you cannot, then perhaps we can work out a way to blend our teams so that you can take on some tasks?
compression is dark voodoo to me. I wonder if using one of the rust zlib implementations, compiled to wasm, might be faster.

Oh ouch. I have no idea of the complexities there. Out of interes,t how did you prepare the WASM build? What language did you write it in? I am interested in WASM but have no idea how I'd go about learning.

Ouch! Able to serialise the data structure in RAM and then hive off a thread to deal with the save in the background in any useful manner?

If 13% improvement gets you within a frame budget then yay. Otherwise oof, lots of effort for not a huge gain.

if you're not feeling it, don't force it. If someone else wants to do it and you trust them to do a good job, let them. Regardless, there is no obligation on you.
