Okay tweeps, can someone explain to me why we can't have a referendum in the same timeframe as we could a GE? (Modulo parliament fannying about rather than getting on with it)

Aah so Labour are whining because the libdems wouldn't support a valueless (given Labour and the Conservative party positions on a GE ASAP) and overreaching motion which if it *were* to have the effect it cannot, would undo excellent progress as well as bad things?
I've taken to ignoring any rabid Labour-rants-about-Libdem stuff in my timeline -- which particular idiocy are you referring to this time?
