While it sounds daft, just put together a CV, which I appreciate will be short on work for you, but you can include talk of Rock Bottom, and how that helps you understand practical programming. And then put a cover letter which says you want a year to reconsider things (tbc)
Many companies offer a gap-year type employment opportunity for people. I know that we have done so for people both before uni and mid-uni courses. Indeed one ended up staying here instead of going to uni.
Take your time, consider your options, and I'm sure you'll get there.
My general feeling on this is that if uni isn't working for you, then it's not healthy to try and force yourself into it. Taking a gap year to gain some perspective can be an excellent thing I've seen work for many people.
I've put "I switched" but in reality I dropped out for about ten years, and then took it up again as a distance learning course. I'd say that while it was right for me, it was super-hard and did limit my employment options for those ten years.
I'd recommend continuous learning.
I realise how late to the party I am, but I'm entirely enchanted by 'In a Heartbeat' and enthralled by the music by Arturo CardelΓΊs called 'Sherwin and Jonathan'

OpenGL has been on the outs for some time now, though it's sad that they've not gone the whole-hog to Vulkan. Fortunately there'e Molten (Vulkan-on-Metal)
New cross-platform games should really be targetting Vulkan.
If they actively went out to recruit for MCC roles among the unemployed, training them etc, then I'd accept it. Otherwise yes, it does seem rather parochial.
