that's what a meeting room is for. Though for an operations team I suppose a single office with N desks might be better. Whiteboards, status dashboards on tvs etc.

I agree. Individual offices where people can work alone in peace are far better. Irc or modern equivalents are plenty for collaboration

As someone who did that, if you can find a way to hang on through uni, do. Dropping out was in some ways good, but in other ways it held me back from good jobs etc for over a decade.
