What is missing from this CDC school reopening priority list? Airborne virus guidance! Like almost nothing in 33 page document on ventilation except 1 paragraph on open the windows, but only if feasible. Ventilation should be #2 behind masks! #COVID19 cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nco…

California, as the biggest state in the nation, and one where Democrats hold total control of the government, carries a special burden. If progressivism cannot work here, why should the country believe it can work anywhere else? More here: nytimes.com/2021/02/11/opini…

For progressivism to succeed, it needs to address the basics of people's lives. It doesn't get more basic than housing, transportation, schools. If we can't fix those, I can't say I'm optimistic on climate change, or progressives continuing to hold power.

Having an understanding of Pinyin is still useful, just as long as you're aware is not everything. It should be useful for most people born in mainland China... but much less useful for names of people whose families left China generations ago.

And strike j from the list. It's good for distinguishing Pinyin from Wade-Giles, but other languages use j (e.g., Yale romanization of Cantonese).

I will confirm good things, although I think I was a little less keen on Season 3.
2
Some of the grid cells are a much stronger signal for that than others. If you see q, x, j (not as jh), zh you're probably looking at Pinyin romanization of Mandarin / putonghua. Signs of other dialects/languages include sylllable-final consonants other than n or ng.
1
Though perhaps I should hedge my "Yes" a little; I'm aware of plenty of small differences, but at least I can't think of big ones. Others might, though... I'm far from an expert.

Yes. Also, there are multiple systems of romanization (converting to Latin letters) for the same language. For example, the surname 曲 in Mandarin might be romanized as Qu in mainland China but as Ch'ü in Taiwan (and then shortened to Chu with substantial loss of information).

Many of these are hoagies (or, if you're from NYC, heroes). Only the one in the lower right is a sub.
i am still not taking suggestions at this time

Lost in all the theoretical debates over the filibuster "is the reality of how the tool has been used so often in practice: to delay, if not destroy, legislation that promotes racial equality," writes @jessewegman. nyti.ms/2N9eWyc

Just a reminder that Intuit and HR Block make money by charging for a service that should be free. The government could easily provide a comparable service at no charge. These companies have purchased the complicity of Congress - and they have enough $ left for Super Bowl ads.

Did you get over 100 electoral votes while I wasn't paying attention?

A barrier was broken today: there is how a cabinet secretary younger than I am. Perhaps another more important barrier too...
This morning, I swore in Pete Buttigieg as Secretary of Transportation. @SecretaryPete is a true problem-solver. He will bring people together to strengthen our nation’s infrastructure. And he will keep breaking boundaries while he’s at it. Congratulations, Mr. Secretary.

Read this story and weep. This, after masks, is the biggest failure—both scientific and communication—of the pandemic in Western nations: the airborne nature of the pathogen. CDC changed this guidance last October. Japan and many other nations had it right on *February* of 2020.
Six feet and 15 minutes became coronavirus gospel. The NFL had data that showed otherwise: The virus could be spread in under 15 minutes and from over six feet. on.wsj.com/3j3ZjDW
