This restrictive zoning includes the floor area ratio (FAR) limit of either 1.15:1 or 1.3:1 (!!!!), the setbacks (15 feet front and sides, 10 feet rear), and the parking requirements (1 space per 1 bedroom or smaller unit, 2 spaces per 2 bedroom or larger unit).

Then I think it's clear the city is placing obstacles in the way of construction of housing.
Maybe it's the zoning (RT-35, part of the SOFA II plan) which, while it says it's for 35-foot residential or mixed use, doesn't really allow what you'd think that means.

When you see something like this (940 and 960 High Street, Palo Alto, CA):
- 8 minutes walk from Palo Alto Caltrain, or from University Avenue in the center of downtown
- zoned for 35 foot high residential construction (RT-35)
- in a location that has had high rents for years

The last _Democratic_ Senator from Southern California was John V. Tunney, who was elected to a single 6-year term in 1970.
* I count Barbara Boxer as being _from_ Northern California, although she moved to Southern California during her third term (of four) in the Senate.
It's almost like we'd forgotten that California's senators are allowed to be from Southern California.😉

His appointment will make history. But the @AlexPadilla4CA I know is far more interested in changing history -- especially for the working men and women of our state and country.
I can think of no one better to represent the state of California as our next United States Senator.

Have been to all 4... and all 4 are worth going back to. Voted for Taipei, but there's definitely a dependence on what season you're going that I didn't include.
(Bias: I've spent a total of about 2.5 months in Taipei, 2 months in Tokyo, 2 weeks in Seoul, and 2 weekends in HK.)
It's even more fun when you cross continents:
1. Rome is further north than NYC
2. Portland, OR is (barely) north of Montréal
3. Boston is west of Santiago, Chile
4. Havana, Cuba is north of Hong Kong
5. Seattle is south of Paris

In this diagram I think "free movement of people" means "ability to go there without speaking to an immigration officer". Would be interesting to also see the "have the right to work on the other side if you're a citizen of one side" arrows... which are different (how?).
