11/N By contrast, foreign governments retaliated against US exports produced in rural, conservative counties -- likely targeting the GOP base. As a result of these retaliations, we estimate that very Republican counties are hit hardest by the trade war.

Also, seeing the Seoul metro map in Chinese confused me for a few seconds there...

Awww, that's the cute little Tokyo map that just has the Tokyo Metro and Toei lines and a rough sketch of a few other companies lines... :-) Links to the English and Japanese versions of the full metro area (Kantō Plain and a little beyond) transit map:
Tokyo's rail network shows what a world class metro area's should look like: jreast.co.jp/e/routemaps/pdf… (English) pasmo.co.jp/area/transport/p… (日本語)

"dealing with" is a pretty strong statement there...

Two related trends, side by side: The alarming rise in U.S. pedestrian deaths and the rise of SUVs. usa.streetsblog.org/2019/03/…

Worth noting also that subway, major tourist sites, etc. have English, but hiking and most restaurants are going to be Chinese-only. Google Translate can be helpful, but only goes so far. Also cc @khuey_.

wiki.mozilla.org/Taipei has a few maybe-outdated restaurant recommendations.

I'm a huge fan of Taipei; never been to Singapore. Taipei land use is great (similar to Paris IMO, but very different looking). Great hiking around the edges of the city, and further away, accessible by public transit. I've been to one vegetarian restaurant that's likely OK...

I would look in the direction of organizations that are working to change land use (denser, less sprawly) and transportation (more transit, fewer cars). (But what sort of organizations?) Really, I'd want to know @drvox's answer to the question, though.

Just wrapped up a meeting with a developer in Boston who relayed a devastating story that perfectly described the link between municipal parking mismanagement and our affordable housing crisis. Buckle up. /1

The conductor on southbound train 380 yesterday was pretty clear when leaving SF that the problem was a derailment in the depot at San José. (He also said he'd never experienced that problem before in 13 (?) years, but maybe he wasn't working the previous two days!)

Major new environmental endorsements for #SB50, the #MoreHOMES Act: Natural Resources Defense Council, @CALPIRG, & Environment California. They join CA League of Conservation Voters. SB 50 legalizes more housing near transit/jobs. Key strategy to fight #ClimateChange. @clcv @NRDC

#Caltrain #SB380 departed Hillsdale on time at 6:43pm. (Next stop Palo Alto.)

#Caltrain #SB380 has begun southbound service from SF on schedule, with announcement of possible 20-30 minute delays later on (possible conversion to local) due to a derailment in the depot in San José.

For a year I've been reporting this story about major climate news, finally breaking today: A new simulation finds that global warming could cause stratocumulus clouds to disappear in as little as a century, which would add 8°C (14°F) of extra warming. quantamagazine.org/cloud-los…

Did anybody at the @csswg meeting drink the H20? (The label clearly says H20, not H2O.) What sort of compound is it? Is it dangerous?

Do they ever actually put you on the jury? (I've never been on one; closest I got was being the prosecutor's first peremptory challenge to kick off.)
