This is unacceptable. The reactionary, poorly planned travel ban has left thousands of travelers at ORD forced into even greater health risk. @realdonaldtrump and @CBP: no one has time for your incompetence. Fully staff our airport right now, and stop putting Americans in danger.
This is the scene at O’Hare airport. The traveler who took the photo said it’s a 6-hour wait for bags then on to customs for 2-4 more of waiting in shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. Police are handing out water and disinfectant wipes. @fly2ohare #ord #coronavirus #COVID19

OK, that makes a bit more sense. Does it get to go on Wikipedia's list? :-/

That's a very inconvenient departure time. I guess they want to allow connections at both ends? Presumably nearly time to update en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longes… , at least with a better source (which I can't find)...

If you're using Respec, it's just an infinite loop, but if you're using bikeshed, you at least fall through to python (which I'm sure has its own chewing gum and bailing wire).

Trump said: "We will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days." But his proclamation bans entry for all foreigners who were "physically present" in the Schengen Zone 14 days prior to their planned arrival in the US. That's a big difference.

It appears we are a week or so behind Italy. A ban on flights from Europe isn’t going to change that. More decisive federal action — massive testing and social distancing — appears to be necessary to “flatten the curve.”

The failure modes of US government officials with COVID-19 (unwillingness to break the rules or take initiative when it's obviously needed) seem like they might be worse than those in the Chinese government (taking what you think the boss wants/measures to extremes).

OK, Facebook is clearly just using the last place I gave it location permission (which is something I generally only do when posting from airports).

It would be more interesting to see the entire metro area's rail lines at LA scale. Many suburban lines through-run into the subway; many suburban lines run at frequencies under 15 minutes all day.
Tokyo's rail network shows what a world class metro area's should look like: jreast.co.jp/e/routemaps/pdf… (English) pasmo.co.jp/area/transport/p… (日本語)

I think there's something in there about weeks when we're worried about food markets probably not being good for the stock markets. On the other hand, perhaps those weeks aren't really the time to worry about the stock markets...

As a California voter, I'm used to getting a lot of election-related mail, but not from presidential campaigns. But this year I got 6 pieces, all from Mike Bloomberg 2020... and most of them came after I voted.

This was quite the license plate. (Seen on Manukau Road in Auckland, last Friday.)

PENCE was set to evacuate infected Americans from a cruise ship. Then TRUMP stepped in — worried how “the numbers” would look if more cases were documented on the mainland. How Trump’s approach made the coronavirus crisis worse. NEW tonight, from me. politico.com/news/2020/03/07…

Yes. The quarantine-at-home strategy used between 1/23-2/1 in Wuhan ie, some confirmed cases were isolated at home, helped reduce R from 3.8 to 1.25, but not good enough. An important lesson for us to learn. Centralized quarantine of confirmed cases after 2/1 was effective(R=0.3)
Important epidemiological data from Wuhan 👇 Home quarantine is not enough. It looks more and more likely we will have to follow the Chinese containment model closer here in Europe in order to get #COVIDー19 under control (R < 1)
