Do things like boosting contrast or saturation help, or is this something that cannot be compensated for via (simple) image processing?

Haven't experimented, so dunno. Now that I know what it says, I can *just barely* make it out, but couldn't without foreknowledge.

gimp's Hue-Saturation, with Lightness -50 and Saturation +100 makes it pretty clear to me, fiddling with Curves (color-specific) more so.

That said, I don't have any form of colorblindness. But following the Hue-Saturation with desaturation to B&W based on luminosity works too
