I wonder if any conference has listed my "CSS Variables: var(--subtitle)" talk with its actual title. Usually the -- is converted to —, lol.

That is highly unlikely, lol. Most likely OSX "smart" dashes.

My point (joke) was that TeX, given 2 hyphens, would have produced an en-dash rather than an em-dash.
