The most frustrating thing in webkits for me is how they lose subpixel text antialiasing all the time. The is just no damn reason for this.

“But… but… we are not sure what the background is…” oh, come on! Leave it to developers to decide when to disable subpixel antialiasing!

@kizmarh But you want subpixel AA to lead to component-alpha (a bit more expensive), not the huge performance trap of layer changes.

@davidbaron why not ignore the complex layers then? In most cases it would still make ok visual result.

@davidbaron and if the result won’t be ok, developers always could disable subpixel as manually. Now there is just no choice.

@kizmarh There's a tradeoff, with some (maybe different) aspects of performance and engine complexity. It's not just a choice.
