Like WebKit and IE6…9, Firefox Nightly now lets you opt out of charset menu using UTF-8 BOM. Useful for widgets iframed by less clued sites.

@hsivonen Does the charset= parameter on the type do the same?

@davidbaron It does not (except in Gecko in the UTF-16 case as an XSS defense).

@hsivonen Ugh. So this provides people a reason to prefer BOMs? (and depend on nearly-invisible characters at the start of files)

@davidbaron Yes. The BOM has downsides. But it has upsides, too. And the upsides arise from the same low-levelness as the downsides. :-/
