What would happen if someone accidentally hooked to the toilet up to the hot water?

@jimblandy Bath faucets that allow hot + cold control on a single knob have bad failure modes when leaky, esp. if hot pressure > cold.

@davidbaron How, exactly, do they fail? Dump hot water on you suddenly? Leak hot water into cold pipe?
