i love San Francisco a lot but if you start to think about it too much it's extremely depressing thinking about the long term realities and restrictions of living in a VHCOL area

more people want to leave SF than any other metro area. it didn't go into why but i guarantee it's mainly COL. young people just can't see a comfortable future here.

and obviously tech workers are very privileged and if even they are feeling squeezed it's a pretty dire situation. not sure what's going to happen here but it just feels hopeless that anything can really change for the better any time soon.

It really starts to feel like the cost of housing would lead to some sort of societal collapse where many of the professions that society depends on would no longer be present in the region.
