Tried to use Venmo recently and it insisted I “reconnect” my bank account using a service called Plaid: this apparently lets Plaid see all my bank statements. Seriously, why the heck is that necessary?

The old fashioned API for this is routing number and account number. Not the best API by any stretch, but much better than username and password.
