You know how you can spend the longest time knowing an expression in written form, but never hear it spoken? Today I heard "wreak havoc" for the first time... well TIL wreak doesn't rhyme with break. Which I guess is good because it makes it not an homophone of wreck.

The interesting thing is that now that I looked for other words with "reak", it seems break would be the outlier... streak, creak, freak, wreak, all pronounce reek.

Perhaps that means "we" changed how we pronounce "break" sometime in the last 600 years?
