today I saw the word 大根 in a Japanese context; read it as Mandarin "dà gēn"; Cantonese "daai⁶ probably-sounds-like-gan", meaning "big root" and realized it was the word for "daikon" and i'm still riding off that high

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who know what daikon is and those who don't. I can't remember how I left the first group, but for some reason it's really hard to describe when someone asks. I guess no one expects a radish to look like that.

The first group can be subdivided into those who find much daikon bitter (hi!) and those who don't.

There are also people who like to smash daikon -- daikonoclasts, as they're known
