The @JoeBiden campaign should not accept rules that would cut off Trump's microphone in a way that the audience can't hear Trump's yelling but Biden can, since that would prevent the audience from understanding what's distracting Biden.

JUST IN: Commission on Presidential Debates says it's now clear that "additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues." Measures to be announced shortly.

It seems simplest to not bother having the debate in person. Do it over eg Zoom and have the moderator only unmute the candidate whose turn it is. (Slightly better would let only the moderator hear both, so they can request to respond.)
