I heard yesterday that Harris is the first person ever on a Democratic ticket from somewhere west of Texas. (Here "from" relates to political careers, e.g. counting Obama as from Chicago, rather than Hawaii.)

Yeah, that checks out based on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o… though there were six candidates even with Texas: Texas (Garner, L. B. Johnson, Bentsen) Nebraska (W. J. Bryan, C. W. Bryan) South Dakota (McGovern)
