Since housing twitter is talking architecture lately, here's some Western architecture with Chinese characteristics: while in the 2000s & 2010s, China was known for copying European buildings, local architects have since invented new designs that literally take it to new heights.

Like in America 100+ years ago, colleges are some of the leaders on this architectural style. The "Chinese Hogwarts" is the Hebei Academy of Fine Arts, while the giant brick campus is the Sichuan College of Civil Aviation.

Hotels are the other type of building that likes to go for castle-style architecture. On the left is a hotel in Dalian, while on the right is a hotel in the Huaguoyuan district of Guiyang, which was built entirely in the last decade or so.

Chinese-style architecture also gets the large-scale treatment, such as the Hongyadong shopping mall in downtown Chongqing.

wow, that is like a much higher budget version of the old Facebook office building in Menlo Park, which also went for the "fake small town" look. Does the Huawei office simply not have parking, or is it hidden underground?

If you look around the Google Maps satellite view at goo.gl/maps/ah232nrrDf9oUeDM… you can clearly see some underground parking entrances and exits (sometimes distinct!) from the ring road looping around the buildings.
