I wrote a new blog post! LCH colors in CSS: What, why, and how? lea.verou.me/2020/04/lch-col… Describes what LCH colors are, why they're exciting, and releases an LCH color picker tool I made to visualize!

Ah good point, I should’ve mentioned that. Though it’s about to change, they’re gonna turn that on by default very soon. @svgeesus or @davidbaron might be able to provide a source.

Proper color management is currently scheduled to be turned on in Firefox 77 (though that could change); the only source I have is bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bu… . We don't have support for colors outside of the sRGB gamut, though. (Do other browsers?)

Seems like it will slip at least one release due to bugs with canvas.

Thanks. What I see from that bug is people puzzled that "red" doesn't give [255,0,0] on their screen but instead gives (whatever is needed to generate sRGB red on their wider-gamut screen). So canvas is storing things in "myScreen" colorspace instead of, say, sRGB?

Yeah, but it may well be an interop bug where in other browsers the canvas image data are stored in sRGB whereas we were trying to store them in device colorspace. Difference seems hard to detect without raw access to the image data (small blending differences, rounding).
