Buyers are going for the lot, not the house. The land north of Embarcadero in Palo Alto is $$$. That chances of this house getting demolished and re-built as a McMansion are 100%.

On board for historical preservation, but only until the upzoning. All the new McMansions bum me out because they won't be re-developed into anything good once they're lost to R1...and they're all I see here.

Some of the new super-expensive SFHs don't even look like McMansions. Have a look at 905waverley.com/ and 909waverley.com/ which are 5BR/5.5bath houses with an additional studio (+1bath) in-law unit on top of the garage.

I was just complaining about the new houses on Waverly. Such a missed opportunity.

Well, you can blame the SOFA coordinated area plan, Phase I, for creating the DHS zoning (Detached Houses on Small Lots).

I do! SOFA CAP is actually what precipitated said rant. Discussion was about certain former councilmembers who constantly brag that SOFA. I think SOFA is a great neighborhood, but the few things getting built there now are insanely low density (also thinking of 190 Channing).
