A travel-related question I was thinking about now that I can't travel... How does the chance that a randomly chosen hotel has laundry facilities (washer/dryer/detergent) that guests can use vary between countries?

My intuition is that of the places I've been multiple times, it's highest in Japan (where I think it's an expectation), and probably next highest in New Zealand.

In Western Europe it is low. In general if it is a hotel room, not apartment suite or whatever it is called, one cannot not expect an access to washing machine. The more one pays for the room, the less are chances.

It isn't a thing I recall often in British hotels - though that may be as much because I wasn't looking for them as there not being any.

My experience in New Zealand was that a washer is common, a dryer very uncommon. (Which is tough with allergies since air drying is not a great idea.)

Every hotel experience seems bleak and uninspired in contrast to Japanese hotels and capsules, and the laundry situation is just one of the many reasons why. 😭💜
