I deleted the previous version of this tweet; I had assumed the data from coronavirus.1point3acres.com… were by county, but the "New York, New York" entry looks like all 5 counties of NYC, not just New York County (Manhattan).

I know five people in NYC who have it. None of us have gotten tested. There are so few tests, basically only those sick enough to be admitted to the hospital are getting tests (so far). Testing is NOT being used to count cases. It’s only being used to make medical care decisions.

The numbers for NYC went up by 93% today (1871 to 3615). It seems likely at least some of that is from increased testing capacity. But given those numbers it's shocking that NYC isn't drastically restricting movement (at least like Bay Area), at least until are enough tests.

Note that China's number include only those who show symptoms, while other countries' IIUC include all those tested positive, and also some countries don't have enough people tested as well, so not sure whether these numbers are really comparable.

China's numbers were from testing that was good enough to eliminate the disease through quarantine, so they're at least close, at least outside Wuhan.
