I wish @SlackHQ had the ability to half-mute a channel, where new messages in the channel would still make it bold (maybe in a different way) in the channel list, but where they would *not* cause the Slack tab icon to brighten to indicate that there are unread messages in Slack.

The lack of this has three failure modes for me: - I mute the channel, and then don't look at it for months, despite meaning to - Slack unread tab icon interrupts me when I'm better off not interrupted - I ignore Slack unread tab icon when it's important (small team channel)

wait, I think that's how it works for me? The slack app only gets a number on it when I have been pinged OR a channel I have set to "all messages" has a new message

In this screenshot, Slack tabs 1 and 3 have DMs or at-here/at-channel notifications. Slack tab 5 has other unread messages. Tabs 2 and 4 have nothing unread. I'd like to be able to set channels so they don't switch the tab from the state of tabs 2 and 4 to the state of tab 5.
