Imagine the headline if @SFGate saw these photos. This is a common, and very popular, sight on approach to Toronto Pearson Airport. Can we stop scaring people? This is normal.

Runway 1 landings are very rare here. I average ~10 round trips a year from SFO and I've never done that one. (I've been on takeoffs 28, 1, and 10, and landings 28 and 19.) Looks like the planes approached as for 28 and then turned pretty close to landing, to avoid hills.

I did watch a Hawaiian plane do a runway 19 takeoff once (straight towards and over the hills). I saw it from the windows of Rotunda A before that was knocked down... so quite a while ago (2000-2005).
