Housing is actually on the agenda at Palo Alto City Council tonight!
-On consent, funding for affordable housing at Wilton Court
-An urgency ordinance to comply with new state ADU laws
-Making downtown a priority development area (why isn't it already?)
-RV/Car Safe Parking Pilot

Will live twete later.
Don't guess most of this will be controversial, but the NIMBs may complain about ADUs & @GregTanaka has signaled that he will oppose safe parking pilot program, which would allow churches to have a whopping 4 vehicles in their lots (at night only!).

Affordable housing funding for Wilton Court secured unanimously on consent! Congrats to @Housing_Choices and Palo Alto Housing for getting funding needed to set aside units for developmentally disabled adults.

Planning director Lait is presenting urgency ordinance to bring Palo Alto into compliance with new state laws on ADU's. nitter.vloup.ch/adrianfine/statu…
Don't think the city has any latitude to not pass this ordinance.
I really appreciate the work of @PhilTing @AsmRichardBloom and @BobWieckowskiCA on #ADUs; tomorrow night @cityofpaloalto considers a #housing ordinance to comply with new state laws. Every starred item in this photo is something our council fought over and kept restrictive.

Kniss asking for data on ADU's actually built in Palo Alto, noting that sometimes people obtain permits, but are then discouraged from building due to high costs.
Presumably, state law changes to limit impact fees will result in more actually constructed units.

Cormack asks how long permits are taking to get approval. Staff indicates that the city applied for a grant to help provide faster OTC permitting.
Expresses trepidation about whether the ordinance is compliant given late-breaking changes to the ordinance this afternoon.

Dubois asks what zones this applies to. Does it apply to multifamily? Planning director is unsure.

Kou's extended discussion about ADUs that are too close to the street blocking people's visibility when making left or right turns was... interesting.
Would she ask those same questions about on-street parking?
