One of my biggest beefs about mathematical and engineering articles is the inclusion of equations without defining what (all) the terms mean. Wikipedia does this all the time, and as best I can see it’s actually worse than just writing random strings of nonsense.

Same for tech docs that don't define acronyms on first use.

Depends on audience. I used to translate for an electronics magazine, that's electronics as in microprocessor, Ohm's law, etc. Spelling out accepted jargon like MOSFET, TRIAC, BGA, DIL is definitely not done. Everyone in the audience knows what it means.

In wikipedia, the right thing to do is often to *link* to the article that defines the jargon. Those who know it can skip right over it; those who don't can follow the link. This is a great feature of hypertext.
