San Francisco, only 49 sq miles, a population apparently obsessed with having unobstructed views directly to the sun.
You would think that the local government would promote, even mandate roof decks.

TOMORROW: The Code Advisory Committee of the Board of the Department of Building Inspection is considering a new rule that would discourage roof decks on mid rise buildings.
Come to the meeting if you can, to talk some sense into the committee.

At least San Francisco allows all roof decks to count towards required Usable Open Space (based on Planning Code section 135).
In Palo Alto, council decided that roof decks on the second floor don't count; others do. Thus non-balcony open space can be on any floor other than 2.
