It's a great idea but "public sentiment" and "people who actually show up to vote consistently in local elections" are not the same thing.

On the other hand, the D6 election turned entirely on endorsements, it wasn't a YIMBY vs. NIMBY fight.

Also a bunch of bad policies at the state level (e.g. Prop 13, CEQA... not sure how much discretionary approvals are dictated by the state)
