The larger issue is that degasification needs to take place at the neighborhood level. One guy's house going up will burn down the whole neighborhood.

Electric heating loses a lot of energy in transmission loss from power plant to home. With gas, there's some loss in the exhaust but it's less.

On the flip side though, with electric, there's no reason to do central heating. Easier to heat individual rooms (another reason why open plan is bad)
