I’m writing amendments tonight I sometimes think about how if I were a software engineer writing *that* kind of code instead of *this* kind of code, the consequences of messing up would almost always be “and then I got a BS error message —> spent a few hours debugging”

instead of debugging my codes as they happen, i usually discover errors manually and incrementally, and then it takes another year of scrutiny, committee votes, and the associated games, just to fix my own mistakes there’s gotta be some “how reckless can you be” metaphor in here

People who write technical standards sometimes have (and complain about, cc: @fantasai) some of the same problems. Though in many cases standards are at least easier to fix than laws once the bugs are found.
