Is always use an example: “a one story building on an full acre of land has an FAR of 1. A two story building on half an acre of land also has an FAR of 1”. Clicks for people after that.

But it should be "on the entire lot" or "on half the lot", nothing to do with acres.

True true but using an acre gives people an easy fixed reference point for them to imagine when they’re thinking about parcel size
